Alt-rock trio FOXTRAX plays SXSW on 3/12 and 3/14

FOXTRAX is waking up the alt rock scene with their tight, nuanced arrangements and excellent songwriting chops. The trio embraces their music's dark undertones but isn't afraid to make light of a rainy day- or in this case, a "Grey Morning." Churning out consistently excellent vocal performances, guitar lines and all around vibes, this band is one of the most solid and compelling that I've heard for a while in the alt-rock genre. Be sure to check them out when FOXTRAX heads to SXSW, playing showcases at the Convention Center on 3/12 and Javelina on 3/14. -Geena Kloeppel

Ambient folk rock duo Nassau to play SXSW on 3/16

Ambient folk dads Justin Wilcox and Jeffrey Silverstein, aka Nassau, make some pretty sweet, evocative tunes. Their debut record, Heron, arrived last September to eager listeners on Bandcamp. Their songs are stripped down to twangy guitar, reverb-heavy vocals, and a little bit of drum machine, highlighting the duo's great, old school songwriting chops. Nassau are headed to SXSW Music Festival in Austin, playing 3/16 at 18th Over Austin. -Geena Kloeppel

Morgan Saint Creates Downcast Pop in Video for "YOU," goes to SXSW

Donning an aesthetic drawn from the experimental side of runway fashion and new wave androgyny, the left-field tendencies of Alternative R&B newcomer Morgan Saint are on full-display in the music and video for "YOU." The video sees the singer performing her subdued brand of vibrant and forlorn synthpop amidst an empty stage; creating a barren, yet, intimate atmosphere to match the song's crestfallen tone. Saint will be performing at this year's South by Southwest Festival following the release of her debut EP, 17 Hero. "YOU" can be streamed below. - Alexander Beebe

Sloppy Jane to play SXSW, new album out 03.02

Sloppy Jane is a band with bizarre and grotesque inclinations and an interest in translating them into their performances. Naked bodies, colored dye, and television screens set a backdrop for melting inhibitions as the music (and often the musicians) tumbles into chaotic fits. It’s a must-see for fans of avant-garde, performative punk. Deservingly, the band, led by Haley Dahl, will bring its ravenous live show to SXSW this year with a string of other dates surrounding the trip. Leading up to those gigs, Sloppy Jane will unleash new album “Willow” on March 2nd with a release show at The Glove on March 7th. The group is currently scheduled to play SXSW showcases for Melted Magazine (March 12th), Desert Daze (March 14th), Invertebrate (March 17th, day), and Siren Sound (March 17th, night). – Cameron Carr
