Owen "Settled Down"

Owen (aka Mike Kinsella) has share a second single, "Settled Down", from his forthcoming Polyvinyl release, The King of Whys. The album is set to be released on July 29th and can be preorder here.

Weekend Warrior, June 17 - 19

Slacker rockers Frontyards are throwing a celebration tonight at Underground Animal for their new single “Lemons,” which you can now stream below. Meandering at a leisurely stroll, the band offers little words of wisdom, before raunchy, soaring guitars takeover, breaking up the monotony of always being taught something. (The struggle is real, y’all.) It’s the group’s first offering from their upcoming album Sachi. Frontyards will be joined this evening by a couple of Deli Philly faves, the polaric musings of Linc Halloran’s Hello Shark and the emotive electro/acoustic-pop of Scotty Leicht’s Shelf Life. They’ll also be hosting out-of-towners, Virginia’s Two Inch Astronaut and NYC’s Dolly Spartans. Yes, you want to go underground tonight. Underground Animal, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), $7-$10, All Ages - Alexis V.

City Rain Record Release Show at MilkBoy Philly June 17

Tonight at MilkBoy is the record release show for Ben Runyan’s brainchild, City Rain. The ethereal, anthemic suites that make up Take Me To The Void do not shy away from being maximalist, but embrace the glistening bombast within the elctro-pop tunes Runyan has crafted. The EP, which is apparently focused on a breakup, does not spend any time mourning, but rather exploring. There are elements of M83, Coldplay and The Killers, a confluence of epic stadium-status influences. Runyan does commercial work, teaches amateur DJs and licenses work, so the tunes are squeaky clean and pitch perfect. Also on the bill for the evening Minka, a dancy, Talking Heads-lovin' (presumably) Philly rock quartet. MilkBoy Philly, 1100 Chestnut St., 8:30pm, $10, 21+ - Adam G.

Leapling releases 'Suspended Animation' at Sunnyvale on 06.18

The brainchild of singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dan Arnes, Leapling plays a brand of indie pop that's at once subtly quirky and gently touching. The young man surrounded himself with local musicians to complete the project's second full length album, a "mid-fi" home recorded work whose release will be celebrated at Sunnyvale on June 18th. The record, entitled 'Suspended Animation,' defies categorizations without resorting to fireworks, offering the contrasting interplay between the edgy arrangements and Dan's serene melodies and vocal delivery. Harpooner previews "Rose Park" with a pair of far-out singles

Rose Park by Harpooner is probably a solid approximation of what it's like to do psychedelics on the beach. Upbeat but unabashedly weird, the singles available from Rose Park sound like Harpooner is going to be working with their own hopped-up version of that mid-2000s Strokes sound that seems to be making a comeback. The album will be available in full digitally or on a, one has to assume, beautiful transparent red vinyl on June 24. -Austin Phy
