Deathrow Tull

Deathrow Tull release new track, to play benefit show for Orlando night club victims on 7/22

Live hip-hop bands are truly a diamond a dozen nowadays, making a new single from NYC's Deathrow Tull all the more special.  The Hip-hop/Soul band's first release since 2013, "Fire (like we do)" is a fast-paced joy-ride through music old and new. Clocking in at over six minutes, the heavily danceable track uses it's length to its advantage, managing to enfold genres ranging from soul, hip-hop, and reggae all into one song. It has some rock leanings too, mostly contributed by a Tom Morello-esque guitar part that stays in the background much of the track, only to suddenly break out into an out of sight solo right past the song's mid-way line. Adding to the guitar part's references, on Friday the 22nd Deathrow Tull is taking part in "Pulse Against the Machine," a benefit show for the victims of the shooting of the Orlando club, where they'll play Rage covers to finish off the night. Check out their latest track below. — Henry Solotaroff-Webber

A Deli premiere: Deathrow Tull releases new video + plays Paper Box

Here's killing two birds with one stone. To illustrate their latest single 'Sucker Punch' (released mid-July) as well as give us a taste of tonight's show – which we'll get to in a minute - Brooklyn-based genre-busting indie hip-hop seven-piece Deathrow Tull is sharing today a third music video. Shaking to the to the beat of that contagiously revolted indie rock/ska-punk/rap sing-along that is 'Sucker Punch', a five-minute homemade montage of stage shots, crowds and backstage footage, jam-packed with fun vibes, invites you to join their party. A perfect teaser to get us excited for this evening's (9.7) Deli sponsored showcase of some of the best local indie hip-hop talent - where Deathrow Tull will be performing alongside Metermaids, Premrock & Willie Green and more - kicking off at 8pm at Bushwick's Paper Box (info here).

Deli sponsored Hip Hop show at Paper Box on 09.07 with Metermaids, Deathrow Tull, PremRock and Willie Green

The independent Hip Hop scene in New York City is a dynamic and competitive array of artists striving to establish themselves as your new favorite headphone haven. The best way to experience these acts, however, is of course to see them on stage in full swagger and bravado. On Friday September 7th, the Tiger Stylez Party at Paper Box in Bushwick will deliver some of the best and the brightest emerging local hip hoppers The Deli has encountered in the past few years. As if the aural excitement weren’t enough, there will be a smattering of world-class street artists adding color to canvas while the rap groups bring the house down. From Strange Famous Records’ Metermaids (pictured + streaming) to Brooklyn Sweat-fest Deathrow Tull to the Lyrical Boom-baptivism of PremRock and Willie Green, this show is perfect for seasoned indie rap aficionados as well as the curious and uninitiated.
